Good places for a golf getaway?

Ok golfers out there...I need some help. I am looking for a great place to send my boyfriend for a golf getaway. I know of Robert Trent Jones and the big ones like Pebble Beach and Pinehurst...but are there any out there that wouldn't be so "well known" but an awesome course to play? Thanks for your input!! (please make suggestions in the US, he doesn't have a pport).
